Have you uploaded some HTML into Clic2mail that isn't displaying correctly when transmitted? Or are you getting an error message upon uploading the HTML file? This is most likely going to be caused by the HTML being incorrectly formatted for email use.
By way of an analogy, both Petrol and Diesel are forms of fuel for a car engine, however if you put Diesel into your Petrol engine car, you'll find your car will stop running, through no fault of the car itself.
In much the same way, there are different forms of HTML optimised for different applications on the internet:
- HTML for websites that will be viewed in a web browser, utilising technologies such as DIVS, external (and some internal) CSS, scripts, animations, background images, and dynamic HTML. Search engines can crawl these types of pages very easily and will rank them more highly than those using the format detailed below within 'HTML for emails'.
- HTML for emails that will be viewed in an email client, utilising tables, font and style tags as opposed to stylesheets and keeping to very basic encoding. The kind of complex coding seen on 'HTML for websites' is often stripped out or displayed differently between the different email clients (and often between different versions of the same client) due to their varying limited HTML rendering capacities, and can display poorly. Images also need to be saved as the smallest file size that can be managed without losing resolution, so that they won't be rejected by the receiving mail client/server.
Uploading HTML that has been written to be viewed in a browser rather than HTML that has been written to be viewed in an email client will result in errors when viewing the email and will result in poor email campaign performance statistics.
We have produced a useful guideline document regarding the basics of HTML for email design that can be viewed online or downloaded and printed for reference.
